CCI began with a question: What if infrastructure surveys were done remotely and the heavy lifting of data processing and feature identification was performed by technology?
Coupled with the right engineering expertise and technical oversight, the team realised they could improve on-site safety, reduce cost for infrastructure owners and maintain and even enhance the quality of reporting required for regulated environments.
In 2020, founders Mark Cramman, Rhys Coombs, and John Cramman brought together their diverse engineering backgrounds, from reservoir supervision and GIS, to marine design and hydraulic modelling, to build a company that could rethink how infrastructure inspections are carried out. Their shared experience in the water and civil engineering sectors made one thing clear: traditional inspection methods were struggling to keep pace with the scale, complexity and safety demands of ageing infrastructure.
The team saw an opportunity to combine unmanned systems with intelligent data processing, reducing the need for engineers to enter hazardous environments while improving the consistency of the information they rely on. That vision led to the development of AssetScan, a machine‑vision technology that transforms photographic data from drones, UAVs and mobile camera systems into structured, analysable insight. Instead of manually sifting through thousands of images, engineers can now rely on trained algorithms to detect and classify defects in concrete, masonry, steelwork and embankments, and even track changes across repeat surveys. AssetScan’s ability to anchor findings within 2D or 3D digital twins gives clients a clear, contextualised view of deterioration, making decision‑making faster, safer and more reliable.
